A few days ago we were excited to report about the new GE Design 2009 Series, well sadly the GE Profile Phone is probably the only thing that will be coming to Target from that series. Thomson, the manufacturers of the GE branded DECT phones have unfortunately fallen on hard times like every other company and is bailing out on the retail telephony market in North America where they have been seeing losses for quite some time. Instead they will concentrate on making set-top boxes (cable boxes) and ‘multiple play gateways (including embedded telephony).’ Sadly this means we will never know what was in-store with the GE Design 2009 Series and if the next version of the PhotoPhone fixed any of the issues we had with the original one. Is this a sign that DECT phones are headed in the direction of the VHS tape and analog television? It certainly seems like it. Goodnight sweet landline.
